Summer College Preview Program - CMU-Q
by Anthony Orme - Wednesday, 12 March 2014, 10:01 AM

If you are currently a student in Year 11 and Year 12, show strong academic potential and aspire to attend an elite university such as Carnegie Mellon, the Summer College Preview Program (SCPP) is a wonderful first step in achieving your goals.

What is the Summer College Preview Program?

The SCPP is a rare opportunity for students from Qatar and the surrounding region to visit our campus and put their skills and abilities to the test within a community of other bright young scholars.  Over a four-week period, you’ll work hard but also have fun and experience the excitement of campus life and challenging yourself to meet the high standards of Carnegie Mellon University.

The Ultimate Preparation for University

The difference between secondary school and college expectations will become clear when you attend the SCPP.  You will find the courses more fast-paced.  You’ll be exposed to college-level math and writing.  You’ll prepare to take the SAT or ACT.  And you’ll enjoy a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting “hands-on” project in your chosen area of interest: Business Administration, Computer Science, or Information Systems.

You’ll gain an understanding of the importance of prompt and regular class attendance, taking notes in lectures and accepting a greater responsibility for their own learning.  The program also includes workshops on how to become a master student by learning to set goals, how to manage time effectively and how to be a more competitive candidate in the college admissions process.

Are You Ready to Show Your Abilities?

This is a program for a very special group of young men and women.  We urge you to apply for the SCPP and if accepted, make the most of the experience.  If you’re like most of the students who participate, you’ll return to high school energized and confident in your ability to work hard to be accepted at the university of your choice.
